 Peruvian Poetry Translations

Javier Heraud

Javier Heraud, Peruvian poetBorn in 1942, Javier Heraud personified the young, politically commited poet of Latin America. He died in the Amazon river port of Puerto Maldonado in 1963 in a flawed attempt to infiltrate into the country as part of a guerrilla column. In his brief life, he published three books: El río (1960), El viaje (1961) and Estación reunida (1961).

Unlike the other poets on this page, I did not know Heraud or get to consult him about the translations. However, I have come to realize that this selection of poetry would be incomplete without his poems.
