Peruvian Poetry Translations
Born in 1942, Javier Heraud personified the young, politically commited poet of Latin America. He died in the Amazon river port of Puerto Maldonado in 1963 in a flawed attempt to infiltrate into the country as part of a guerrilla column. In his brief life, he published three books: El río (1960), El viaje (1961) and Estación reunida (1961).
Unlike the other poets on this page, I did not know Heraud or get to consult him about the translations. However, I have come to realize that this selection of poetry would be incomplete without his poems.
